And . . . Watching . . .The Conservative Man (apparently Mista Jimsta has now changed his name) and BBall Wizard are both playing on basketball teams this year. They both had games last night.

BBall Wizard still has NEVER lost a league basketball game IN HIS LIFE. He is an extremely good post player and is playing on a team with a lot of very good players. He hustles after every play and comes home with floor burns and bruises after almost every game. I love to watch his hustle and enthusiasm.

The Conservative Man's team is actually playing in two leagues. Because of his knee surgery and his broken foot last year, he wasn't able to play in one of the leagues because he wasn't registered with them at the beginning of league. He is however still going to those games and watching. The team played in the league he doesn't play in last night. He is an extremely good player. He has a high basketball IQ and can see things develop very quickly. I think he is an excellent point guard, but because he is so much taller than his team mates, he usually is now playing the post.

Here's some video

BBall Wizard's Game

Conservative Man Watching His Game
DSChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00339393113475195501noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-61112795026865879442009-02-07T11:23:00.000-08:002009-02-07T11:27:46.288-08:00It's basically just a scamMany people feel frightened by this whole “global warming” thing. So I looked on the internet and found this great article to show everyone its not the end of the world.
After you read it, come back and read what else I have to say.

http://www.heartland.org/policybot/results/11548/February_2003_Eight_Reasons_Why_Global_Warming_Is_a_Scam.html

To quote Homer Simpson- “Al Gore can’t do anything right.”

I will say this though. I think that we need to try some new energy sources, but we need to ease into them. We also need to take better care of our environment. We can’t keep polluting like we are. (Anyone in Utah probably agrees.) We can carpool, recycle, and ride our bikes. Anyway, don’t feel like it’s the end of the world anytime you here someone take global warming to the extreme.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-51762377431447215952009-02-06T20:13:00.000-08:002009-02-06T20:15:55.164-08:00In referance to my dads latest postI'm really happy no one will be able to here me sing.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-10271063858497096632009-02-06T19:04:00.000-08:002009-02-06T19:11:16.027-08:00Obama's (sad) PresidencyFace it, it has been over hyped.

Predictions for Barrack Obama’s failed- (oh, I’m sorry it isn’t over yet) presidency.

One of these three will happen

1. The reason---it was getting too time consuming and Facebook is way too busy. There is too much going on and it's like an octupus. So I will primarily use this blog to communicate. I think that will be better.DSChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00339393113475195501noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-56785519255512756792009-01-28T17:11:00.000-08:002009-01-28T17:16:03.409-08:00I'm Brain Dead!!!I'm sitting at work trying to get some more billing done. I forgot to blog.Okay.

So we blogged for a few weeks and then stopped for a few weeks.

It's not that we didn't have anything to say---It's that we didn't have a whole lot of time.

Here is a quick summary of events since the last blog. We had a lot of fun at Christmas. We visited everybody and tried to do too much.

On New Years, we just basically stayed home. We didn't do much.

Today is Martin Luther King Day---the day before the Inauguration. I am excited in many respects but am bothered in a lot of others. I think it is a wonderful thing that our country has elected a black man to be its president. I am bothered, however, by the underlying presumption that many people in the media seem to have accepted that our country is really in bad shape---that somehow President Bush has destroyed the country. I don't accept that presumption and refuse to be bullied---intellectually or otherwise---into accepting the presumption. I also have fundamental disagreements with the underlying democrat party presumptions. But, hey, my party lost.

I will support the President and am grateful for a country where a peaceful transfer of power is possible. Let me report on Thanksgiving. We had Thanksgiving with Laura's family at noon. Her brother and sister and their children, her parents, and Aunt Gay all came over and we ate a lot. It was really good food. We had planned to have the dinner at Laura's parents house but decided our place might be a better venue since we had lots of toys and fun things to do for the children. Consequently, although we provided the venue, everyone else brought the food. It was a good time.

At 3:00 p.m., we all got in the car and headed to Scott's parent's house. We had Thanksgiving with his brother, Steve, and his children, Grandma Crook. The food was good. The kids were stuffed and we had lots of fun. We've attached a slide show to the right.DSChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00339393113475195501noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-11098670117643895682008-11-13T16:33:00.001-08:002008-11-13T16:44:04.485-08:00What I Do For Fun

As you know, the BYU-Utah game is going to be played in a week and a half. At work, I sent out this e-mail:

All:

Last year was the first year of the BYU/Utah Haiku and
Limerick contest. Although I promised a prize, I never actually bought
one. This year I did. If the winner of this year’s contest is a Utah
fan, he or she will receive a 4 CD set of music entitled Happy Days ‘60s---the
last decade of Utah dominance in the rivalry. If the winner of this year’s
contest is a BYU fan, he or she will win a 3 CD set of music entitled Ultimate
‘80s---the decade in which all BYU fans are still living. Anyone who is
not a fan of either team or is a fan of both may choose between the CD
sets. All are welcome to come to my office to view the
prizes.

Now to the contest. . .

Anyone in
the firm may submit any number of poems in a haiku and limerick format which
will be judged on form, wit, and style. The entries must be submitted
before game time next Saturday.

To better approximate the current
state of college football, any entry from the east side of the office (I have
arbitrarily determined that the east side means anyone east of, but not
including, Eric Johnson’s and Bryan Bryner’s offices) will get preferential
treatment. Additionally, I will ask two other volunteers to be judges with
me. They will each rank the poems from 1 to 25. I will prepare a
spreadsheet that weighs each of the judges’ rankings depending upon my
subjective judgment of the validity of each of the rankings. Additionally,
I have determined that anyone who has practiced for more than fifteen years or
has an office immediately adjacent to such a person will be classified as a
Poetry Championship Series attorney who will get preferential treatment in the
prize determination as well.

I have not had the time to perfect my
spreadsheet but will do so before the prizes are given. In one of the magazines---it was either Time or Newsweek---there was a story about the plight of soldier's families who are left at home to fend for themselves while their father or mother is deployed overseas. After I quickly thumbed past the article to begin reading another, I felt a very significant pang of guilt. You see, the reason I wanted to look past it was I didn't want to deal with it.

Quite frankly, I was disappointed in myself and quite shocked. The fact that I was the son of a career military man who watched my dad leave hom twice while serving in two different overseas venues, that my brother is currently active duty and has been overseas a number of times, and my brother-in-law is a veteran who was stationed in the desert during Desert Storm makes me particularly ashamed. I know the sacrifice that families make for their soldier parents. I have felt the loneliness that a child feels when his dad is gone. I know the worry that is in the heart of every family.

In fact, at the beginning of the most recent Iraqi war, I watched a Nightline episode about the deploying of National Guard troops. The episode ended with the soldiers marching away. As they were leaving, from the background the sound of a young boy's voice saying, "I love you, Dad," ended the show. I literally cried for most of the night. It was like all of the anxieties I had felt as a young boy that had been buried underneath all of those years came out. (The thought of it is making me cry now.)

Why then did I look past the article? Why would I do that?

I believe it is that it is easier for me to pass over the sacrifice of these soldiers and their families by ignoring them. If I don't read about it, I won't remember. I won't have to feel the pain again.

The problem, of course, is that these families do feel the pain. Their pain has secured my liberty. Their pain has bought me the security to sit in a plane and skip the story written by a free press about their suffering.

Never again.

I owe my freedom, my liberty, and my life to veterans.DSChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00339393113475195501noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8647734168627681367.post-19122592192130213422008-11-07T14:34:00.000-08:002008-11-07T15:57:21.388-08:00The Beginning

Here's the deal.
